Cushion foam cleansing: Why this facial cleansing method is good for me?

For centuries, the Japanese have perfected the art of facial cleansing through the use of uniquely Japanese ingredients, as well as through the technique. If you’ve read our blog post on cleansing the Japanese way, you’ll know that there are different types of cleansers, each suited for different skin types and needs.

But there is a reason why the Japanese are known for their one-of-a-kind cleansing technique, and that comes in the form of “awa sengan,” or cushion foam cleansing. At first glance, the cushion foam cleansing technique might not seem like a big deal, but we guarantee that once you read the benefits of cushion foam cleansing, you may want to change your mind.

What is cushion foam cleansing?

“Cushion foam cleansing” is a facial cleansing method adopted from the Japanese skincare routine. Japanese foam cleansers are formulated to create a dense and creamy foam that serves as a cushion between your hands and face for a truly gentle cleansing experience. This secret is what helps to keep the skin clean from deep within the pores, while also correcting dull skin texture for supple, glowing, mochi skin.

The benefits of creating a cushion foam with your facial cleanser:

  1. The cleansing foam acts as cushion that guards your skin from abrasion, harsh rubbing and drying out. If you find yourself tugging at your skin to remove stubborn make-up, you could be doing a long-term disservice to your skin. Friction from hand-to-face contact can result in inflammation, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. Cushion foam cleansing means a minimalized daily skincare routine. The beauty of cushion foam cleansing is that the cushion foam does all the work. All you need to do is gently press the “cushion” against your skin and rinse off with water. That’s it. The micro-bubbles seep into pores to draw out dirt and impurities, so there’s no need to rub or massage the foam on your skin.
  3. Depending on the ingredients in the cleanser, cushion cleansers can be used for all skin types. While all skin types can benefit from foam cleansing, oily, combination and normal skin types will likely reap the best results. For these skin types, foaming cleansers are likely to leave the skin feeling clean and refreshed without being stripped of its natural oils. Dry skin types can also benefit from foam cleansing, but they should be careful not to overdo it - they should monitor how their skin responds and cushion cleanse as often as necessary, depending on their lifestyle and the time of the year. Especially in humid climates, even the driest of skin types can benefit from a good cushion foam detox.
